SMS in. Clarity out.

Your money,
auto‑tracked.

Khata reads the SMS your bank already sends you (every UPI payment, card swipe, EMI and salary credit) and turns them into a clear picture of your money. No typing. No bank passwords. Just open it and know.

  • Encrypted at rest
  • Runs on your own server
  • No ads. Ever.

How it works

Three steps. You only do the first one, once.

  1. 1

    Your bank texts you

You already get an SMS for every UPI payment, card swipe, EMI and salary. A free Android app forwards each one to your Khata.

  2. 2

    Khata reads it

It pulls out the amount, the shop or person, the account and the date, then sorts it into a category. It learns your habits as you go.

  3. 3

    You see the picture

Today’s spend, this month’s total, which EMIs are paid, and what’s safe to spend. Always up to date, without lifting a finger.

Khata never asks for your bank password or net-banking login, and it can’t move money. It only reads the messages your bank sends you.

Your daily routine

A day with Khata takes about a minute.

It fits around your life instead of asking for your evenings. Here’s what a normal day looks like.

  1. 8:00 am

    Chai and a glance

Open Khata: yesterday’s spend, this month so far, and anything new. Five seconds, done.

  2. 1:15 pm

    One tap to tag

Paid a person over UPI? Khata asks once what it was for. Next time it remembers.

  3. 5th of the month

    The EMI ticks itself off

The bank’s debit SMS arrives, and Khata marks your loan EMI as paid. No spreadsheet.

  4. 9:30 pm

    Know what’s safe

Thinking about that order? “Safe to spend” shows what’s left after the bills still due this month.

What you get

Four questions, always answered.

  • What did I spend today?

Today and this month at a glance, compared with your usual month.

  • Which EMIs and bills are paid?

Loan EMIs, rent, credit cards, subscriptions and utility bills: paid, due or overdue, matched from SMS automatically.

  • Where is my money going?

Food, travel, shopping and more, month against month, with the biggest changes called out.

  • How much is safe to spend?

Your money left for the month after bills still due, so you can say yes (or no) with confidence.

  • Cash in one tap

Cash never sends an SMS, so there’s a quick button for it. The only thing you ever type.

  • Categories that learn

Tag a shop or person once and every future payment to them sorts itself.

Built for one person

Your money is personal. Khata keeps it that way.

Khata isn’t a social app or a lending app in disguise. It’s a private notebook for one person, running on a server you control.

  • Encrypted at rest

SMS text, notes, account digits and your email are encrypted in the database with AES-256.

  • No bank passwords

It reads SMS only. No net-banking login, no screen scraping, no access to move money.

  • Your server, your data

Self-hosted and single-user. Nobody else signs in, and nothing is shared with anyone.

  • No ads, no trackers

No advertising, no analytics scripts, and your data is never sold.

  • Nothing in the address bar

Searches and filters never appear in links, so they don’t end up in browser history or logs.

  • Locked down

HTTPS only, strict browser security rules, and sign-in lockout after repeated wrong passwords.

Questions

Good questions, straight answers.

Which banks does Khata understand?

Khata reads the SMS formats of HDFC, SBI, ICICI, Axis and Kotak, plus general UPI, card, ATM, NEFT/IMPS and auto-debit messages that most Indian banks send. A new bank format is a small update on our side, not a change on your phone.

Do I have to give Khata my bank password or net-banking login?

Never. Khata only reads the SMS your bank already sends you. It has no access to your bank account and cannot move money.

Is my data safe?

Khata runs on your own server, for one person. The SMS text, notes, account digits and your email are encrypted in the database, the site only works over HTTPS, and there are no ads, trackers or data sales.

How does the SMS reach Khata?

A free Android app called MacroDroid forwards each bank SMS to your Khata over HTTPS. The phone only passes the message on; all the reading and sorting happens on the server.

Does it work on iPhone?

You can use Khata in any browser, including on an iPhone. Automatic SMS forwarding needs an Android phone, because iOS does not let apps forward SMS. On an iPhone you can add payments by hand.

What if Khata cannot read a message?

Nothing is thrown away. A message Khata does not understand waits in a review list, and you can add it with one tap.

What about cash?

Cash never sends an SMS, so Khata has a quick "add cash spend" button. It is the only thing you ever type.
